“Die nuwe dokters by Steiltes is AMAZING.”

Inge Prinsloo

At Steiltes Family Practice, we can't empathise enough how much we value a great doctor-patient relationship with open and honest communication. A great doctor-patient relationship is built on trust, where patients feel comfortable sharing their concerns and doctors listen attentively. It also values empathy and understanding; as doctors, we strive to truly understand our patients' feelings and experiences. Moreover, a great doctor-patient relationship prioritises collaboration, where doctors and patients work together to make informed decisions about healthcare and treatment plans. Overall, a strong doctor-patient relationship is characterised by mutual respect and a shared commitment to the patient's well-being.

Malaria is transmitted by the plasmodium parasite, which is spread through the bite of an infected mosquito. Only 10–14 days after being bitten by an infected insect do malaria symptoms typically start to manifest. In several regions of South Africa, including parts of Mpumalanga, Limpopo, and northeastern KwaZulu-Natal, malaria is endemic. The season for malaria runs from September through May. Common symptoms of malaria include a high fever, headache, chills, and sweating. Nausea or vomiting are also symptoms that may occur along with the feeling of weakness. If left untreated, malaria can lead to severe complications, such as organ failure and death. It is important to seek medical attention immediately if you suspect you have malaria, as early diagnosis and treatment can greatly improve outcomes.

Malaria symptoms:

• Fever

• Chills

• Headaches

• Sweating

• Weakness

• Nausea or vomiting

🦟 If you experience any of these symptoms, please book a consultation so we can confirm your treatment plan after a Malaria test.
